Job Description

Ledgent Finance & Accounting is partnering with a growing manufacturing organization to identify a skilled Cost Accountant who will play a key role in supporting financial and operational decision-making. This position is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, maintaining standard costing processes, supporting inventory management, and providing financial insights that help drive business performance.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment, a strong understanding of cost accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate across departments including Operations, Engineering, R&D, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of material, labor, manufacturing overhead, and product development costs.
  • Develop, calculate, and maintain standard costs for products and components.
  • Partner with the R&D team to create cost simulations and financial models for new and modified products.
  • Analyze actual production costs against established standards and budgets, investigate variances, and communicate findings to management.
  • Prepare recurring reports comparing budgeted and actual manufacturing costs.
  • Manage and support inventory cycle count activities, monthly inventory reporting, and audit requirements.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including cost of materials, cost of sales, accruals, reserves, intercompany transactions, prepaids, and account reclassifications.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of item master records and costing data within the ERP system.
  • Monitor inventory valuation and provide reporting on excess, obsolete, aging, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing cost analysis and operational insights.
  • Apply knowledge of standard costing, absorption costing, fixed costs, and variable costs to support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide financial analysis and recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, process optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide inventory analysis and cost of sales support for affiliated business entities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, inventory accounting, cost accounting methodologies, and standard costing.
  • Experience performing variance analysis, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost reporting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using reporting tools such as SQL or other business intelligence/reporting platforms is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment is a plus.
